Properties & Applications of Food Grade Sodium Pyrophosphate (TSPP)

Editor:CDchemTime:2026-10-21

As consumer demand grows, purely natural foods alone cannot satisfy modern food processing requirements, making approved food additives essential in the food industry. As a professional manufacturer, Chongqing Chuandong Chemical introduces the key properties and typical applications of food grade sodium pyrophosphate (TSPP).

In food manufacturing, sodium pyrophosphate, sodium tripolyphosphate (STPP) and sodium hexametaphosphate (SHMP) are widely adopted as food quality improvers. They share common functions: pH regulator, metal ion chelator, emulsifier, dispersant and binder. Sodium pyrophosphate is available in food grade and industrial grade. Only food grade TSPP with valid food additive production qualification, such as the product from Chongqing Chuandong Chemical Group, is permitted for food contact.

Food grade sodium pyrophosphate is a water-soluble white powder. It acts as a stabilizer and buffering agent during food processing. It is commonly added into soy sauce and fruit juice to brighten and stabilize their colour.

TSPP can soften water and redissolve insoluble calcium and magnesium salts. Applied in meat and aquatic product processing, it enhances water holding capacity to keep meat tender, stabilizes natural pigments and inhibits fat rancidity. It is also widely used in yeast powder and cheese production.

Food grade sodium pyrophosphate from Chongqing Chuandong Chemical Group features high purity, low impurity content and consistent, stable quality.
