The PH value of sodium hexametaphosphate is close to neutral, and it can form complex with calcium ion in hard water, so as to achieve the purpose of soft water. Sodium hexametaphosphate is used as a soft water agent in dyeing or post-treatment. It can capture calcium and magnesium ions from the precipitate of insoluble calcium soap, magnesium soap or calcium dye and magnesium dye, and make the precipitate dissolve again.

In other words, when sodium hexametaphosphate is introduced into the solution, sodium soap can be regenerated. Even when calcium soap or magnesium soap has formed, the clot of calcium soap or magnesium soap will disappear. Similarly, sodium hexametaphosphate can regenerate dyes.

(2) prevent the precipitation of sodium alginate in the presence of calcium

Sodium alginate slurry is the most suitable slurry for reactive dyes, but attention should be paid to prevent sodium alginate from infiltrating into the calcium in hard water to generate calcium alginate.

Therefore, sodium hexametaphosphate must be added to prevent the formation of calcium alginate. Under normal condition, the dosage of 5-10g/L is enough, and it can be increased to 15-20g/L under special circumstances. It can be added when the printing paste is mixed or when the original paste is mixed.

(3) as scouring assistant:

When soap and soda ash are used for scouring of nylon strand (polyamide fiber) before dyeing, sodium hexametaphosphate (about 0.3% of the yarn weight) can prevent the soap from being consumed by hard water and improve the scouring effect.

(4) treatment of circulating water:

In circulating water, due to the addition of sodium hexametaphosphate, which reduces the hardness, it is not easy to produce calcium carbonate precipitate and avoid blocking the water pipe. Use about two parts per million.

(5) treatment of boiler water:

Sodium hexametaphosphate can also be used for the treatment of hard water in the furnace, which can not only avoid the formation of boiler scale, but also make the generated boiler scale re dissolve, but the price is higher than that of trisodium phosphate.

Sodium hexametaphosphate is an important ingredient in synthetic detergents (such as sodium alkylsulfonate and Sodium Alkylbenzene Sulfonate), because it has good ability of soft water and washing aid.
