Why is potassium formate so useful in drilling fluids?
More attention should be paid to safety and environmental protection in drilling. Potassium formate drilling fluid has the advantages of little damage to the formation, low solid content system, mud cake, strong acidizing ability, good borehole cleaning ability, strong inhibition, small environmental pollution, and high temperature stability of polymer. Such environmentally friendly and high-quality drilling fluid inhibitor products are easy to use.
1. Potassium formate drilling fluid system has the advantages of strong inhibition and anti collapse ability, superior rheological sand carrying capacity and water loss reduction ability, reasonable cost, regular well diameter and low accident rate.
2. Through the use of potassium formate drilling fluid system, the problem of shrinkage and collapse of the bottom formation with strong water sensitivity in Bongor basin of Chad has been solved.
3. In normal drilling, the solid content and general content of the system shall be strictly controlled, otherwise, the thickening effect is obvious, which makes the later viscosity shear force difficult to control. Small experiments can be conducted on site to determine the solid content and general content suitable for the well.
4. The content of potassium formate in the system should be no less than 5% to ensure that it has a strong anti collapse effect. Since the demand of montmorillonite for K is greater than that of illite, the amount of potassium formate can be increased properly when the montmorillonite content is high.
5. It is better to use the polymer with the ability of entrapment inhibition with potassium formate, and use the mechanism of cooperative anti collapse than simply using potassium formate.
6. Potassium formate and other polymer treatment agents should be added in the form of glue liquid to avoid large fluctuation of drilling fluid performance.
Generally, density, viscosity, shear force, water loss, mud cake, pH value, stability, colloid rate, salt content and sand content are used to express the performance of drilling fluid. The use of potassium formate can affect the quality and speed of drilling.
