Phosphate refractory binder is an inorganic material with cementitious properties, in which acidic orthophosphate or polycondensate is the main compound. Among them, sodium hexametaphosphate(SHMP) binder is prepared from soda and orthophosphate, and then by heating, dehydration and condensation. It belongs to the combination of chemical reaction or polymerization.
The common types of refractory castables are refractory castables, wear-resistant castables, insulating castables and clay-bonded castables.
The principle of choosing binder is to use appropriate bonding method according to the different material composition and product use, so that refractories have the necessary plasticity, strength and density, and ensure that refractories form a strong slag-resistant and iron-corrosive structure in the use process.
Another principle for selecting binders is that dispersive media and dispersed phases can adapt to each other. For each dispersed phase, there exists its own most appropriate dispersive medium, which can meet the use conditions of mud to the greatest extent. Therefore, there is no universal binder for all kinds of refractories, but for each specific refractory, there is the most appropriate binder, and different refractories of different materials also need different binders.
SHMP dissolves slowly in water, so when used as refractory binder, it must be crushed into powder to accelerate its dissolution. It can mix with water in any proportion.
Moreover, SHMP has good thermal shock stability, high compressive strength, strong slag corrosion resistance and impact resistance, high load softening temperature and chemical stability in refractory production. It can be used as alkaline refractory binder.
